Meet the Doctors

Hassan Oueis, DDS, PhD "Dr. O"

Dr. Oueis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his dental degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, and he undertook an additional two years of specialized postgraduate training in pediatric dentistry at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. He went on to perform clinical studies on growth and development in children at Tokyo University in Japan, where he earned his Ph.D in pediatric dentistry.

In addition Dr. Oueis completed a prestigious two-year advanced fellowship program in pediatric dentistry at the Ohio State University.

Dr. Oueis has been the director of the graduate program of pediatric dentistry at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where he helped train and educate dozens of pediatric dentists for most of the past decade. Prior to that, Dr. Oueis taught for five years at University of Detroit Mercy. He is also active in research and has published numerous research articles in national and international dental journals.

Dr. Oueis established Children’s Dental Care as the premier pediatric practice of Canton and Dearborn. Children’s Dental Care is a state-of-the-art dental office designed with children’s comfort in mind. Our bright, cheerful surroundings help children feel at ease.

Dr. Oueis enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, soccer, and reading.


Ly Julie Van, D.D.S.

Dr. Julie Van is originally from the metro Detroit area. She spent many years in Detroit and attended the University of Detroit Mercy for undergraduate and dental school, earning a dental degree in 2016. Dr. Van has always enjoyed caring for children and after practicing for a few years in general dentistry, she pursued specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Michigan, receiving a master’s degree in 2020. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Van currently lives in Ann Arbor and enjoys a good cup of coffee, cooking different cuisines, attending social events in the community, traveling, and spending time with family.


Abbie Walker, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Walker is originally from West Michigan and received her dental degree from the University of Michigan. After dental school, she completed a general practice residency program at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She returned to the University of Michigan to complete her residency in pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Walker continues to be active in the pediatric dentistry clinic at U of M, where she regularly teaches dental students and residents. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

She lives in Ann Arbor with her husband and their three young children. Outside the office she enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with her family.


Rehab Alabduljabbar, D.D.S.

Dr. Rehab Alabduljabbar is a board-certified pediatric dentist whose focus is to provide comprehensive treatment in a way that is compassionate and understanding to each individual family’s situation. Dr. Rehab received her dental degree from the University of Jordan. She then moved to the US with her husband to pursue her post-graduate education. Shortly after moving to the US, she completed her doctoral degree in dental public health from Boston University. She then completed a post-graduate program in the specialty of pediatric dentistry from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

After graduation, she worked at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Chicago. She then moved to Michigan to work as a full-time assistant professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry where she taught for almost four years. She then wanted to pursue her passion in serving the pediatric special needs population in Detroit, which led her to join Children’s Dental Center, where she worked as the pediatric dentistry residency clinic director.

We are pleased that Dr. Rehab has decided to join our team as a full-time pediatric dentist. Dr. Rehab is certified in PALS and maintains professional affiliations with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Michigan Dental Association.

Dr. Rehab lives in Novi with her husband, her five-year-old daughter Talia, and her five-month-old daughter Tayma. They enjoy spending time outdoors and enjoy traveling around Michigan.


June Chu-Chun Hsiao, D.D.S.

Dr. June Chu-Chun Hsiao was born and grew up in Taiwan. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in Taiwan in 2003 and has also been a Diplomate of the Taiwanese Board of Pediatric Dentistry since 2008. She moved to Ann Arbor in 2007 and finished her pediatric dentistry specialty training at the University of Michigan in 2017. Upon graduation, she joined the University of Michigan School of Dentistry as a clinical lecturer in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Hsiao is a board-certified pediatric dentist and teaches in both the predoctoral and graduate pediatric dental clinics. She has experience in behavior management for pediatric patients and also providing care for children with special healthcare needs. Apart from clinical care, her research interest has been investigating new materials for pulp therapy. Dr. Hsiao volunteers for dental missions overseas and is fluent in Mandarin.

She currently lives in Ann Arbor with her daughter and husband. She likes to spend time with the family, travel, and play piano.


Dr. Kristen Ponichter

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Kristen went on to complete a one-year general practice residency in Buffalo, NY. She then practiced for five years in her home state of Michigan before deciding that she wanted to work only with children. Dr. Kristen knew she wanted to be a dentist from a very young age. She loves helping children smile and watching them grow.

She continued her education at NYU-Langone in Nashville, TN for the additional training to become a pediatric dentist.

Dr. Kristen is board-certified and looks forward to meeting you and your children.   


Dr. Elizabeth Caplis

Dr. Elizabeth Caplis grew up in western Michigan and received her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After dental school, she completed a general practice residency at Loyola University Medical Center near Chicago and then returned to western Michigan to practice for 6 years. In 2020, she completed pediatric dental residency at the University of Pittsburgh and moved to metro Detroit to practice. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Caplis enjoys running, cooking, traveling, yoga, and hiking with her dog in her free time.


Dr. Awad E. Kamil, B.D.S., M.S.C., M.F.D.R.C.S.I., P.G.-Cer.

Dr. Awad E. Kamil completed his residency in pediatric Dentistry from University of Florida in Gainesville which is one of the most respected and highly competitive hospital based programs in the United States. His main interest is working with patients with special needs and medically compromised children in both clinical and hospital based settings.

Before Dr. Kamil moved to US he had over 10 years of overseas clinical and teaching experience in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kamil received his dental degree in 2000 and clinical MSc in 2006, both from the University of Khartoum, Sudan. He was also granted membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland MFDRCSI in 2012.

Dr. Kamil is a board certified pediatric dentist and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and PedoGator Alumni.

He believes that “The beauty of being pediatric Dentist is that our career is challenging and far from routine as every patient is a different experience and different expectations”.
